Frequently Asked Questions

What air conditioner should I use to cool electrical enclosures in demanding environments?

nVent HOFFMAN SpectraCool interior/exterior air conditioners provide reliable enclosure cooling for demanding environments. They are available in multiple sizes, cooling capacities and configurations for industrial and outdoor applications.

Are SpectraCool air conditioners available for outdoor installation?

Yes. Many SpectraCool catalog numbers are configured for outdoor installation, including configurations with NEMA Type 3R, Type 4 and optional Type 4X protection ratings.

Are communication options available for SpectraCool Remote Access Control?

Remote Access Control options support monitoring and control through communication methods such as USB with Modbus or Ethernet using SNMP or EtherNet/IP on select configurations.

What mounting options are available for SpectraCool interior/exterior?

Exterior and partially recessed mounting options are available, helping designers fit cooling units into different enclosure and space constraints.

What voltage and phase choices are available for SpectraCool?

Available electrical configurations include 115 V single-phase, 230 V single-phase and 460 V three-phase options, depending on catalog number.

Are partial recess mount SpectraCool units eligible for all ratings?

No. Partial recess mount units are not eligible for Type 4 or Type 4X ratings and are not eligible for Telcordia GR-487 certification.

How do I choose the right SpectraCool enclosure air conditioner?

Choose a SpectraCool catalog number by matching heat load, nominal cooling capacity, voltage, phase, material, operating temperature, remote access needs, corrosion protection, protection rating, outdoor installation status and mounting approach.

What ratings are available for SpectraCool interior/exterior air conditioners?

SpectraCool units include UL/cUL Type 12, 3R and 4 ratings, optional Type 4X configurations, CE, EAC, IP56 on the internal loop, IP34 on the external loop and Telcordia GR-487 capable configurations.

What cooling capacity range is available for SpectraCool interior/exterior?

SpectraCool interior/exterior units are available across a broad range of nominal cooling capacities, with examples ranging from compact 800 Btu/h units to larger-capacity configurations for higher heat-load applications.

What nominal cooling capacities are available?

Available nominal capacities include examples such as 235 W / 800 Btu/h, 586 W / 2000 Btu/h, 1172 W / 4000 Btu/h and higher-capacity configurations across the family.

Can SpectraCool air conditioners reduce filter-related maintenance?

Yes. SpectraCool units include a dust-resistant condenser coil that supports filterless operation in most indoor applications, and a cleanable reusable aluminum mesh filter is included for dirty environments.

What operating temperature range is available for SpectraCool?

Many SpectraCool configurations support operation from -40 F / -40 C to 131 F / 55 C, making them suitable for demanding factory and outdoor environments.

What corrosion protection options are available for SpectraCool?

Advanced Corrosion Protection Level 1 protects condenser-side copper tubing and coils plus thermostat coatings. Level 2 adds evaporator-side protective coatings and an additional thermostat wrap.

Can SpectraCool units be monitored remotely?

Yes. Selected SpectraCool configurations are available with Remote Access Control for monitoring and management of cooling units from a PC using supported communications options.

What material configurations are available for SpectraCool units?

Available material configurations include mild steel, stainless steel 304 and stainless steel 316L, depending on the catalog number.
