Naval 19" Varistar CP MIL Cabinet
An electronics integrator was contracted by the US Navy to create an advanced platform of capabilities addressing a mission critical water challenge. The customer was in need of a COTS enclosure with MIL specifications.
Challenge
This was the customer’s first naval application. They looked to nVent SCHROFF as the experts in military cabinet manufacturing to guide them through the cabinet engineering and procurement process to protect their electronics in naval rugged environment.
Solution
nVent SCHROFF was able to design a rugged, vibration isolated cabinet and ensure the BoM met DFARS traceability requirements and other prime contractor flow-downs.
- nVent SCHROFF also conducted a variety of tests for the customer:
- MIL-DTL-901E for DSSM drop table test with weight loading of 460 KGs
- MIL-STD-461G for EMI Shielding
- Mil-STD-810H for Corrosion Resistance
- Mil-STD- 167-1A for vibration
The customer received and validated the prototype cabinet, which was integrated with their electronics and tested. The customer a preciated the ease of configurability, robustness and quality of the first rack units.
The customer received another naval opportunity for a small 12U cabinet configuration, and returned to nVent SCHROFF for the new design due to the positive experience with their first project.
